HELLO LOVE

11″ x 15″ Prismacolor Markers on Watercolor

Hello love, I’m so glad I found you.  You’ve been hiding on me for a while.  I hope you stick around this time, because I really like it when you’re here.  I know you’ve got a lot of people to take care of in this world and you’re doing such a great job at it.  I just hope we’re all doing good… at taking care of you.

CATCH IT

11″ x 15″ Prismacolor Markers on Watercolor Paper

It will call you.  I heard it about a week after my first trip to Hawai’i.  It is still there and probably always will be. It’s the call of the waves.  I can’t surf. I can get up on a board and catch waves, but I’m like a baby taking its first steps.  There is nothing smooth about it when I’m out there.  But I still love it.  I love every moment in the ocean.  The waves, the beach and the sun… that is where I want to be.

11″ x 15″ Marker & Pen on Watercolor Paper

I know you’ve seen these little birds on a canvas already, but I had to finish off the sketch.  Not to mention, I think these guys are pretty cool and I love the song.  So, I hope you all have a good day and if anything is bothering you maybe it really isn’t that big of a deal.

JOHNNY

11″ x 15″ Drawing on Watercolor Paper

Johnny was a good manWoman hold her head and cry, ’cause her son had been shot down in the street and died, from a stray bullet.  Woman hold her head and cry. Explaining to her was a passerby, who saw the woman cry. Wondering how can she work it out?  Now she knows that the wages of sin is death, yeah! Gift of Jah is life. She cried, “Ah-um, I – I know! Johnny was a good man, I – I know!  Never did a thing wrong, Johnny was a good, good, good, good, good, good, good, good, Good, good, good man”, Johnny was good man, she cried – she crie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ie-ied!

BIFF

8.5″ x 11″ Digital Image and Drawing

Biff.  A great name for a bully.  Who can forget the movie Back to the Future and the character Biff Tannen?  He was the classic bully and was brought to life by actor Thomas F. Wilson.  There’s a piece of movie trivia for ya.  He also played Griff Tannen in Back to the Future II and Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen in Back to the Future III.  This isn’t a drawing of him, but he sure looks like a Biff to me.

WHAT I WANTED

11″ x 15″ Mixed Media on Watercolor Paper

This is not what I wanted to draw.  This is not what I wanted to paint.  Or is it?  Is it the other way around?  This is what I wanted to draw.  This is what I wanted to paint.  I don’t know which I wanted to do or not do, but this is what I came up with.

A CONSCIOUSNESS

11″ x 15″ Marker & Pen on Watercolor Paper

I feel like I’m looking deep into somebody’s mind when I’m staring at this piece.  What are the thoughts in there that you don’t know you’re thinking?  What are dreams?  What is real?  Can we really tap into parts of our brain that doctors and scientists say we are not using?  Maybe we’re not supposed to be able to use them.  Maybe there’s a reason for that.

HAPPY TOGETHER

8.5″ x 11″ Marker on Watercolor Paper

I spotted this lovely couple while walking to the cafe in the morning in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.  He was rockin’ some swimming goggles, a scarf and a sweet mustache.  She was in leopard skin tights, a flannel and hot pink hair.  They were a match made of foam.  They were a match made in heaven.

CHANT DOWN

11″ x 12″ Mixed Media on Wood

Babylon is all around us.  It is the government.  It is the various systems that are in place trying to govern our existence to fit certain molds.  Consumerism, material wealth, politricks, money and more, are these the things that really matter today?  They were put in place to put the people in their place.  Chant dem down!  Sing the songs of revolution and inform the people that we do not need these systems.  We need to live off the land and be free!  Chant dem down!  Don’t be a victim of the system anymore.  Chant dem down with the sounds of reggae music!  Jah Live!

THIS LIFE

10″ x 10″ Mixed Media on Paper

Why are we all here in the universe?  Why are some people more well-off than others?  Why can I make art?  Why can’t I stop making art?  Why aren’t all people good?  The list of life’s questions goes on for eternity and we’re all here trying to figure them out.  Don’t worry… about a thing… cuz… you know the rest, I think :)

QUIET

8.5″ x 11″ Pen on Paper & Digital Image

I did’t know who she was or where she was from.  I couldn’t tell if those were henna designs or tattoos on here skin.  Maybe I was just dreaming.  Maybe there was never anyone there.  But I know I’ve seen you somewhere before.  Maybe just not in this life.

MONKEY SEE

8.5″ x 11″ Pen on Paper & Digital Image

I was sitting and relaxing in the hotel room in Asheville, NC after filming a wedding and staring at this picture on the wall from across the room.  I knew it was a picture of flowers, but from where I was sitting I saw something much different.  I saw a monkey.  So, I start sketching him out.  The petals were his ear & leg and the space between the petals were his eyes & body.  I still see him in the flowers every time I look.

HANDYMAN

10″ x 10″ Mixed Media on Paper

This is my hand.  This is my drawing.  This hand drew this man.  I dipped this hand down into the paint and pressed it against the paper.  After it was dry I drew this man over it.  The letter “y” means “and” in Spanish.  Hence the name Handyman (hand y man).  Hand and man.  I guess I could have went with Manoyhombre as well.

TOYS

8.5″ x 11″ Pen on Cardboard

I ran out of lined paper in my pad and was left with the cardboard backer.  These are some of the doodles I came up with for the backer while on a few breaks at work.  I think my friend Todd is in the background.  A toilet shoots out designs.  There are some old school toys like the paddle ball, a mask and top.  Kids these days, they don’t know what they’re missing out on.
