NIGHT DANCER

12″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Omega Bond

Chains break in the darkness of the midnight hour. Held down no more, running for freedom, running for life. Hidden in the bush from firefly lights and cricket wing fights. Cold ground was her bed last night and rock stone was her pillow too. Dreams of better days made mosquito bites feel like soothing back rubs. High tide and sun rays breathe fresh life into the new day. Wake up and live, wake up and dance today. And when you dance in the air of the gift from tonight don’t ever forget what your yesterdays were like.

I GAVE MY MOM THE BIRD  (GIFTED)

16″ x 20″ Mixed Media on Canvas

I gave my mom the bird and she started to flip out. I looked at her, she looked at me and began to shout. I couldn’t understand the words coming out her mouth. She started crying and went to sit down on the couch. I never gave my mom the bird before. I gave one at a family party and later gave some more. It’s confusing to me because I always heard… that people get really angry when you give them the bird. But as far as I can see… everyone that I given the bird to gets extremly happy. I guess giving the bird is something that should be done. Hopefully I’ll be able to give the bird to everyone.

BE WITH ME NOW

24″ x 48″ Mixed Media on Wood

Smiles exchanged from across the way turned into heartache and pain. Miss you like the summer on a winter day. Seems like yesterday when I didn’t even know your name. Danced into my life and it will never be the same. Be with me now, you have been from the start. Be with me now, listen to your heart. Don’t let it slip away, don’t let me wait in vain. Don’t let the beauty of your smile be the life behind my pain.

SEPARATE

12″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Wood

Gotta break free, gotta get away, gotta separate. News, media, violence on TV, too much hate. Kill in the name of your god and say that it’s fine. Car bomb, school shooting, what will it be next time? Two people in love can’t get married cause they are gay. Who are we to judge love and say what’s okay? Social media everyday all up in your face. No really thanks I don’t care what you ate today. Soldiers sent to protect this land for the government. Come back home, one less leg, on unemployment. Politician grants a favor looking in your eyes. Turn around take your money, spend it on his lies. Is this really what is meant by being civilized? If it is, then… you can count me out… No one hears our cries… Separate.

FOR KYLE (GIFTED)

8″ x 10″ Oil on Paper

I didn’t think streets like mine existed anymore. There are a lot of kids in my neighborhood. They’re always outside playing games or riding bikes together. It reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in. We are always outside doing something, not sitting in the house all day on the computer or in front of the TV. So, when Kyle and Zack pulled up on their bikes while I was painting and the first thing I hear is whoa! That is so cool! I knew the words “can I have it” were coming next. Sure enough there they were and Kyle had got himself a painting. I’m a sucker for kids what can I say?

POSSE

12″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Omega Bond

Always got my back, always got yours. No questions asked, that’s how it formed. Thicker than water, close like blood. Pull you out the mud or the deepest flood. Runnin’ through the forest, can’t see through the trees. Help you find the light, get you off your knees. Call me up bro in the middle of the night. I’ll listen to your words, I’ll give you some advice. When times are tough, seems like there’s no end. Always got your back, always be your friend. Really don’t matter if many days pass. You are like blood, this was meant to last. Always got your back… No questions asked.

HOLD YOU

18″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Oak Tag

I will hold you, I will will never let you go. I will hold you, tighter than you know. I will hold you, look deep into your eyes. I will hold you, to sooth you when you cry. I will drop all expectations to help you reach your dreams. I will hold your hand when life feels harder than it seems. I will listen to every word you have to say. I will be there to guide you, but not get in your way. I will hold you, I will love you. I will hold you forever in my heart. I will hold you so so so tight. I cannot wait… to start.

PALM AT DAWN

24″ x 48″ Mixed Media on Wood

Wake up look out the window, see some palm trees. Start the stove, heat the water I need to make my coffee. Grab a book as the sun comes up, turn the page of a new day. Listen to the sweet songs the birds sing and what they say. Head out the door with a board under my arm. Hope that the waves don’t cause too much harm. Sun on my back wind in my hair. Seems like yesterday that we were up in the air. Hot patacones y gallo pinto. Banana mango smoothie with ice to go. Travel through the hills in the north country. Taking in the sites that were there to see. Miss the lazy days that we got to share. Can’t believe it’s been two years since we were there. Atlantic to Pacific all in one day. I know we’ll meet up again in some way.

VERSES

18″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Oak Tag

Been liking the writing that comes out with the art. Never planned on this happening from the very start. These words just keep coming from somewhere in my mind. They cannot get lost in there or left behind. I love this world that is happening. I love not having all the answers. I love to write these verses. Love is all that matters. This project is on a road that will end. Through it I’ll have made some art and friends. Trying to give the gift of my gift. Trying to lift the ones that have slipped. Know that I’ve got a long way to go. This is verse one of so many more…

UNDER THE MOON

36″ x 60″ Mixed Media on Canvas

Sometimes I sit under the moon and think we must be here for a reason. Another year passes and we change with the seasons. Try not to mistake these signs for chance. Try to follow the rhythms of their dance. Don’t get frustrated by the same old routine. Read between the lines and find out what they mean. Your future could be looking right into your eyes. Don’t get too mixed up and make yourself go blind. These things have been written, they are part of your path. Brush off all the people that sit back and laugh. They know not what to do with this opportunity. They missed all the signs, they just don’t see. Take this world, take it in your hands. Take this world and fill it with your plans. You are they one that holds the key. Only you can unlock your destiny.

WHITE WATER

7″ x 15″ Mixed Media on Wood

Surrounded. Gasping for air in a giant washing machine filled with foam. Which way is up? Which way is down? Getting tossed around like a rag-doll in the mouth of a pit-bull. You have no control. Just when you finally pop out another set rolls in. This time worse than the last. Try to roll with it. Don’t panic. You’ll make it through this. When you do, you’ll paddle back out and try it again. Have no fear. Be Strong. Face the day. Be the wave.

FOR THE MASSES

12″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Omega Bond

He does it for the people, for the masses, for the Earth. He does it trying to tell us what this life is really worth. He sings for the people and they sing along. He sings for the masses and they chant his songs. Songs of life, self-worth, and positive things. Songs of freedom, slowing down and seeing everything. He does it trying to help rewrite the book. He does it so that you’ll stop and take a look. He sings for the love inside you and I. He sings for the souls of the most high. Songs of dreams becoming reality. Songs for the masses. Songs for you and me.

CLOSED MY EYES

8″ x 10″ Mixed Media on Canvas

Close my eyes see the holes in the sky. Close my eyes and wonder why. Close my eyes to remember your face. You are missed, I was crushed when you left this place. Ten years in life never seemed so fast. Ten minutes in the end seemed to last and last. Close my eyes wish I could have done more. Wonder everyday what you had to go for. Gave you my breath, but it just wouldn’t take. Pounded on your chest, but you just wouldn’t wake. Look up at night see the holes in the sky. Close my eyes and I wonder why. Close my eyes hope all is okay. Close my eyes… know we’ll meet again… someday.
