READY

12″ x 16″ Mixed Media on Canvas

Random words written across scattered grains of sand on any given beach. Pick them up and arrange them in your hand if you want to know your future. The wind came and blew them all away. The love of summer was left behind. Do you know how many different scenarios there can be? Another handful, another happy day, another birth. A wave came and washed it all away. But on the horizon they can see a little girl walking. Is that a halo or just the outline of the rings of the rays of the sun? Either way she’s an angel. She picks up a fist-full of sand. What does it say…?

DON’T LET THEM DIE

12″ x 84″ Mixed Media on Closet Door

Don’t let them die. Going to Northampton. Staring at lightning storms. Laying on the beach with the sun in our faces. Don’t let them die. Making art. Writing. Saturday morning coffees, medium-hazelnut-with-caramel swirl and cream. Don’t let them die. Laughing in bed so hard you start snorting. Traveling. Watching movies. Nothing can kill this. I know we won’t let them die. Pass them down and let them live. Pass them down and we will live forever.

2 GUYS FACE

16″ x 20″ Mixed Media on Canvas

2 guys stand face to face with a table between them while having drinks in a bar, I think. No, those are teeth not a table that you see. See, those are eyes not heads on necks on shoulders on torsos. So there you go. Then where’s the nose? Nose? Right above the table… i mean teeth. I mean. I don’t know where the nose is or goes, but I know it’s a face and a face has a nose. That is just space on the face… I mean between the 2 guys that are standing face to face. See I told you it was a face.

RUN TO YOU

24″ x 48″ Mixed Media on Wood

Nothing strong enough to break this bond. Not the beauty of the snakes. Not a tropical place. Not time, not space. I run to you. I run to you because it is in me. Chosen roads of reincarnations past. I’ve done this before. I can see it in my dreams. Old souls always find their way back. I run to you. Nothing in lives passed ever tore us apart. Nothing in future lives will be the start… of our demise. I love you and that will never die. I run to you and I always know why.

FIRST

12″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Wood

First light. First sight. First time you open your eyes. First cry. First sounds. First deep breath and a sigh. First night. First day. First time we say your name… to you. First words. First steps. So many firsts left. First you must arrive for your firsts to come alive. First time we see you you’ll melt our hearts. First time will be first, but it won’t be the last. First just stay little, don’t grow up too fast.

COLLAPSE

24″ x 48″ Mixed Media on Wood

Let it fall to the ground, down to the ground. Let it crumble. Let the emotions pour out, pour on to the ground. See the rubble. See the words on the page scream out loud, so loud. Try to say it yourself, to yourself, you would stumble. Watch the ground start to shake, feel it shake through your hands. See you tremble. Keep it bottled inside, inside let it fly, let it fly, fly out bumble bumble. All around us it will collapse. All around you it will collapse. All around me it will collapse. To the ground, watch it fall, let it fall and be humble.

LAMB OF GOD

24″ x 48″ Mixed Media on Wood

From the footprints in the sand to walking a floor of water. Face the horizon and light up the morning sky. Bless the meek so that they may gain the strength they need to inherit the Earth. Some may go at it alone, but others will call upon you for your guidance. Be the voice of reason. Be everything we need and everything we will become. Be the beauty that surrounds. Be the light. Show us the way.

FOR NOW

24″ x 48″ Mixed Media on Wood

Walking outside in the cold grasp of a burning city. Claiming to be the second coming of Jesus Christ, she was screaming. There is more to life than this! There is more to life than this! Silence. Marching up and down the block like a rat in a cage she stopped when she came to each sidewalk’s end. Start counting. Not one, not two, not four, not five, not six. Three! Shrieking with the power of God flowing out of her face. Three! Three! Three! Then, like icicles fall from rooftops, her head fell off and floated away to be with the stars in the sky, in the galaxy… in the universe… in the heavens. Her body dropped. This is it for now. The city still burns… the city… still burns.

RASTA DON’T RUN

6″ x 12″ Mixed Media on Wood

Marcus say sir Marcus say, red for the blood that flowed like the river. Marcus say sir Marcus say, green for the land Africa. Marcus say yellow for the gold that they stole. Marcus say, black for the people it was looted from.
They took us away captivity, captivity. Required from us a song right now man say repatriate, repatriate. I and I patience have now long time gone. Fathers mothers sons daughters everyone. Four hundred million strong. Ethiopia stretch forth her hand closer to God, we Africans closer to God we can. In our hearts is Mount Zion. Now you know seek the Lion. How can we sing in a strange land. Don’t want to sing in a strange land no. Liberation true democracy. One God, one aim, one destiny.

A BLUR

24″ x 36″ Mixed Media on PVC

Lifted up. Turned around. Pushed through the surface. Slammed to the ground. Everything went numb. Everything was black. Which way is up? How do I get back? Hand over hand. Climbing up the leash. Made it to the board. Finally I can breathe. Another set rolls in. Crashing from the sky. Pinning down my chest. Feel like I could die. Gotta get back up. Climb the leash once more. Light seen at the surface from the ocean floor. Got myself to safety. Made it through the storm. Got back on my board. Paddled out for more.

I LOVE YOU

16″ x 20″ Mixed Media on Wood

Three little words. I, love and you. Make someone’s day with I love you. Change someone’s life with I love you. Shape the course of history with I love you. I love you in the morning and when the night time comes. I love you in the moonlight and under the sun. I love you all of the time, so much it makes me weak. I love you… I love you, it’s so plain to see. I love, I love you.

SHE BREATHES

16″ x 20″ Mixed Media on Canvas

Nothing sweeter than when she breathes. She moves. Playing tag through mom’s belly. You’re it. Recognizing voices, foods and waking up. She rises. Her favorite song is Three Birds by Bob Marley. She dances. Growing bigger, stronger and ready for the world. She breathes. Don’t worry little one, you’ll be free soon. She waits… we wait… we breathe… she breathes.

CHUNKY

16″ x 20″ Mixed Media on Canvas

It can take you, flip you upside down and break you. It can make you, want to come back for more. You can try to, get away, but it won’t let you. You’ll hear it call you, it’ll come and get you. It’s the call, the call that you just have to, answer and you’ll come back to. The call of the waves will grab you. It might be chunky, choppy, glassy or funky. Might call it a hella, awesome, wicked or crunk sea. Don’t let it miss you, we all need some of the sea. So when it calls you, run right down to the sea. Give a wave to the waves in the sea. Give a wave to the waves for me.

ONE HEART

12″ x 24″ Mixed Media on Omega Bond

Even though he is gone, he is there and you have the memories. One love. He is the one who taught you about life, love and how to sing. One Heart. Though these days are tough and the nights are long he left you with the gift of song. Let’s get together. You will get back up, you will rise above and sing again your songs of love. And feel all right. One love, one heart. Let’s get together and feel all right. He is in your heart, he is looking down. He is smiling at you, so lift your frown. You make him proud when he hears your sound. So sing it loud up to his cloud. You will get by. One love. You are strong. One heart. Write one for him and sing that song… One Love… One Family… One Heart…

THRU THE FIELDS

18″ x 30″ Mixed Media on Wood

Pulled up with a sense of urgency. Making the situation feel like an emergency.  But what I couldn’t see wasn’t hurting me. You telling me is actually you acting selfishly. Cuz if I didn’t know ‘n’ kept living normally. I’d still love you ‘n’ you’d still be coming home to me. But now I see thru the fields of your misery. I know that you ‘n’ me were never meant to be. Now I’m free to be who I am supposed to be. But the memory of you keeps on haunting me. Don’t know if this kind of freedom is the kind I thought I’d need. Can’t believe that you’re the one who did this to me. Can’t believe the color that my heart can bleed. Can’t believe we won’t be creating memories. Can’t believe… can’t believe you…
